Friday March 2nd, 2012 meeting

Good Morning Folks,

So I have made it my plan to write summary of our meetings right before our next meeting for two reasons, 1. To remind you (I am sure you probably forgot some stuff in two weeks), 2. To get us thinking about the next meeting

If this does not sound good, changes are always welcome, so please let me know how to better serve you.
I also was thinking if the person presenting can write a paragraph or so about it and send it to me within 10 days of our meeting?

Ok going back to our meeting last Friday: Robel presented, and shared his life experience. He is been through a lot. From serving in the military to coming to the states was quiet a journey.  While in high school Robel and others in his school were required to travel outside of their town and spend summers in towns or villages that they were not familiar with. It was not just the place that they were not familiar, but also the people.  Students from different parts of the country are grouped together. The students with different culture and background are forced to communicate and get to know each other. Robel explained how this was such a great experience for him.  It helped him appreciate living and getting along with others who have completely different background (not his friends) than him.

After completing high school and waiting for his test results, Robel was required to serve at the National Military Service.  While getting trained there, his test results came and allowed him to go back to Asmera and completed his degree in accounting.  After receiving his degree, Robel, worked as an accountant for the government (National service).  While working there he applied for DV (diversity Visa).  Six months later he received it. Because people under the age of 40 are not allowed to leave the country, Robel had to snick himself out of the country to Sudan where he received his exit visa and came to Chicago where his brother lives. Since then Robel has been attending school first at Truman Community college and then at UIC.  At UIC Robel studies Biochemistry.  Robel’s life is not just this, there is a lot more I did not touch on and I am sure he did not talk about too. This is just a glimpse of it.  However, I appreciate him for sharing a little bit about him. If anybody wants to spend time with him, I am very sure he would be willing, so contact him and hang out.  And Robel, you are welcome to add or correct anything here. Please do comment.

For tomorrow Aissetu Barry will be presenting. I am excited to see you guys tomorrow. Have a blessed day and night.

Please comment and let me know how I am doing?  How I can better serve you.

Sincerely,

Tsige.
